My journey as a surface pattern designer began, unknowingly, at age six in my grandparents’ bathroom. Their wallpaper was a pastel-pink world of glamorous women in feathered silk robes and fluffy slippers, getting ready with powder puffs and bright red lipstick. I was fascinated. I wanted to be one of them—until I noticed an illustration of one woman stepping out of the shower wearing only her shower cap. My six year old self was mortified. That moment stuck with me. Even then, I sensed the ability of design to tell stories, spark imagination, and make our everyday world unforgettable—ideas that continue to shape my work today.
